Frequently asked questions
How do I add a location?
Open Settings from the main screen and use the search field to add a location by city name or ZIP code. You can add multiple locations and swipe between them on the main screen.
Why am I not receiving alert notifications?
- Make sure notifications are enabled for SimpleWX in iOS Settings → Apps → SimpleWX → Notifications.
- In the app's Settings, check that notifications are turned on for the location you care about.
- Alerts are issued by the National Weather Service for your saved locations — no notification means no active alert for that spot.
What are Critical Alerts?
Critical Alerts are an iOS feature that lets the most serious warnings (for example Tornado Warnings) play a sound even when your phone is silenced or a Focus is on. In SimpleWX they are optional and off by default. When you enable them you can set quiet hours outside of which warnings arrive normally, and choose exactly which warning types are allowed to break through.
Why does the temperature in the widget differ slightly from the app?
The widget refreshes on a schedule set by iOS, so it can lag a few minutes behind the app. It updates automatically whenever you refresh the app.
Where does the weather data come from?
Forecasts, alerts, radar, and discussions come from the National Weather Service and NOAA. Current conditions come from nearby station observations. Air quality comes from Open-Meteo. SimpleWX covers United States locations.
